Indoor funeral wake venues are becoming more popular in Singapore, with the Singapore Government building more in recent years. This seems like they are trying to encourage more families to plan and hold wakes in these funeral parlours instead of void decks. In fact, the government has planned to open 3 more funeral complexes in Bukit Batok, Ang Mo Kio and Mandai Road. With the aging population of Singapore, the utilisation of these funeral parlours would be increasing the the coming years, with the number of deaths projected to increase from 22,000 annually in 2020 to 40,000 in 2024. Here are LRDF, we are seeing an increasing adoption of these indoor funeral venues and memorial halls.

Here are some of the more popular funeral parlours and halls that we have seen:

It has has a 10,000 sq m of floor space, 14 different memorial halls, a columbarium, 170 parking space and has a full roof top of solar panels. The funeral parlours can accommodate funerals ranging from 60-1000 pax. This is no wonder that when Mr Wee Cho Yaw died in February 2024, his family decided to hold his wake at this location. Singapore Casket: Memorial Hall

Address: 131 Lavender St., Singapore 338737

Contact: +6562934388

Website: http://www.singaporecasket.com.sg/

Pricing: Starts from $550

Singapore Casket building is another popular option being located in a more central region of Singapore. It has 12 fully air-conditioned halls that can accommodate 15-250 pax. Each room is also equiped with a screen to show which funeral is being held. Parking is limited for this venue, the building it self does not have parking for guest. Guest will have to park at the road side parking around the building and walk across. This is usually acceptable during non peak hours, however, if guest are coming in during lunch time in the weekdays, parking around the areas is difficult and they will likely have to park further out and walk over.

Thing to note, we have heard good things about the service provided by the staff in Singapore Casket, saying they are very professional and understanding of the needs of family members.

Sin Ming Drive

There are couple of funeral parlour venues in Sin Ming Drive, these use to be the handful of places to hold a wake outside of the standard HDB void decks and Churches. They are fully airconditioned and comes with limited shared parking space. From our understanding only 2 parking spaces are allocated to each funeral parlour here. But there are many shared parking spaces. These venues are mostly fully air-conditioned and can comfortably hold between 20-40 pax.

However, these funeral parlours are located side to side, with only a thin wall to divide them. Therefore, during times when there are many funerals held at the same time, these spaces can become crowded. The space is not as intimate and the noise can travel between the different venues.

What should I consider when choosing a funeral wake venue in Singapore?

When choosing a funeral wake venue, consider the family’s religion, expected number of visitors, location, parking, air-conditioning, accessibility, privacy, and budget. Indoor funeral parlours and memorial halls may be more comfortable for guests, while churches or void decks may be preferred for religious, cultural, or family reasons.

Are indoor funeral parlours better than HDB void deck wakes?

Indoor funeral parlours offer more privacy, air-conditioning, shelter, and dedicated facilities, which can make the wake more comfortable for family members and visitors. HDB void deck wakes remain common in Singapore and may feel more familiar or convenient for neighbourhood communities. The better choice depends on the family’s needs, customs, and budget.

Can funeral flowers be delivered directly to funeral parlours and memorial halls?

Yes, funeral flowers can usually be delivered directly to funeral parlours, memorial halls, churches, and wake venues in Singapore. When ordering, provide the venue name, full address, hall number, deceased’s name, delivery timing, and family contact number so the florist can arrange the delivery properly.

When should funeral flowers be sent to the wake venue?

Funeral flowers are best sent once the wake details are confirmed. Ideally, they should arrive before visiting hours or early during the wake so the family can display them properly. If you are unsure of the timing, check with the family, funeral director, or florist before arranging delivery.

What type of funeral flowers are suitable for indoor wake venues?

Condolence stands, wreaths, floral baskets, and orchid arrangements are all suitable for indoor wake venues. For smaller halls, a compact condolence stand or basket may be more appropriate. For larger memorial halls, fuller wreaths or standing arrangements can create a respectful and visible tribute.
