Choosing a funeral wreath

Wreath sizes, and what each one says

Wreaths at a Singapore wake stand upright on a tripod at the hall entrance, at eye level, so everyone who walks in reads the card.

In Singapore, “wreath” covers the whole family of standing tributes, from the classic ring on a tripod to the taller standing sprays. A wreath in the S$93 to S$160 band is the usual send from a friend or a colleague. Between S$160 and S$230 the designs are fuller with more focal blooms, which is where most close friends and family land. Above S$230 you are into the double-ring, cross and grander standing designs, and those tend to take the front positions in the hall.

Cross-shaped wreaths suit Christian and Catholic wakes. For Chinese Buddhist and Taoist wakes, white, cream and yellow chrysanthemums are the expected palette and red is left out. Hindu families usually handle the flowers themselves, often white blooms and jasmine, so ask before sending a wreath. Muslim funerals are held quickly and simply, and many families prefer no flowers at all. When you are unsure, ask us and we will tell you what we normally send to that parlour.

The message card is included, and we will help you word it

Every wreath comes with its message card (To, From and your note), and the wording costs nothing. If the words will not come, start from one of these and edit it:

How much should I spend on a condolence wreath in Singapore?

Most wreaths we send sit between S$130 and S$230. Friends and colleagues usually choose the lower half of that band; family and company tributes go higher. Pick the size that fits your relationship rather than the biggest one on the page.

Should I send a wreath or a flower stand?

A wreath is the traditional tribute from an individual or a family. A stand is taller and more visible, which is why companies and larger groups choose one. See our condolence flower stands.

What colour flowers are right for a Chinese funeral?

White, cream and yellow, mostly chrysanthemums, with white the safest choice. Red is avoided. Purple appears at some Buddhist and Taoist wakes.

How soon does the wreath need to arrive?

Send it for the first evening if you can, since that is when most visitors come. Wakes usually run three to five days, and a wreath arriving on day two or three is still welcome.
